How Much Do They Pay Nigerian Police: Salary by Ranks

I don't know why you are interested in knowing how much they pay Nigerian Police. Maybe you want to know what your uncle earns in the Nigerian Police or you want you join the force. Whatever may be your reasons, simply know that the Police are least paid among corresponding and other security agencies in Nigeria. However, many of them still manage to cope with their families despite rising economic hardships.

If you are passionate about this work, it's better you do it just for the purpose of helping your nation and not for remuneration sake. Until, the Federal Government decides to review your monthly wages, their current pay.


So, How Much Do They Pay Nigerian Police: Salary by Ranks?

The Nigerian Police are paid based on COMPOS: Consolidates Police Salary Structure. This is almost equivalence to other salary structures in other Federal Establishments in Nigeria and Ghana. Below are the consolidate annual salary and the corresponding monthly salary 

1. Police Recruit

Police Constable is the least and rank-less postion in the Nigerian Police Force   
Entry qualification: WASSCE / NECO / NABTEB
Grade Level: Recruit
Annual Consolidated Salary = N108, 233.00, 
Monthly Consolidated Salary N9, 019.42
Deductions =  N676.46 as Pension
Remaining =  N8, 342.96. This is the amount a Police recruit goes home with. 

2. Police Constable 

Grade Level: 02 (1) with Gross Monthly Salary = N42, 508.13
Grade Level: 02 (10) with Gross Monthly Salary = N46, 840.86 with rent.
Grade Level: 03 (1) with Gross Monthly SalaryN43, 293.80 
Grade Level: 03 (10) with Gross Monthly Salary = N48,619.16 including rent.

3. Corporal   

Grade Level: 04 (1) with Gross Monthly Salary = N44,715.53
Grade Level: 04 (10) with Gross Monthly Salary = N51,113.59 per month including rent subsidy.
 

4. Police Sergent


Grade Level: 05 (1) with Gross Monthly Salary = N48, 540.88
Grade Level: 05 (10) with Gross Monthly Salary = N55, 973.84.

 

5. Sergent Major

Grade Level: 06 (1) with Gross Monthly Salary = N53, 144.81
Grade Level: 06 (10) with Gross Monthly Salary = N62, 204.88 per month.
The package appears to relatively improved for senior officers,

6. Cadet Inspector  

Grade Level: 07 (1) with Gross Monthly Salary = N73, 231.51
Grade Level: 07 (10) with Gross Monthly Salary = N87, 135.70 including rent subsidy

7. Cadet Assistant Superintendence of Police (ASP)  


Grade Level: 08 (1) with Gross Monthly Salary = N127, 604.68
Grade Level: 08 (10) with Gross Monthly Salary = N144,152.07
Grade Level: 09 (1 and 10) with Gross Monthly Salary = N156, 318.39

8. Deputy Superintendence of Police (DSP) 

Grade Level: 10 (1) with Gross Monthly Salary = N148, 733.29
Grade Level: 10 (10) with Gross Monthly Salary = N170, 399.69

9. Superintendence of Police (SP) 

Grade Level: 11 (1) with Gross Monthly Salary = N161, 478.29
Grade Level: 11 (10) with Gross Monthly Salary = N187, 616.69


10. Chief of Superintendent of Police (CSP)


Grade Level: 12 (1) with Gross Monthly Salary = N172, 089.06
Grade Level: 12 (10) with Gross Monthly Salary = N199, 723.96

11.  Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP)


Grade Level: 13 (1) with Gross Monthly Salary = N183, 185.73
Grade Level: 13 (10) with Gross Monthly Salary = N212, 938.16

12.  Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP)

Grade Level: 14 (1) with Gross Monthly Salary = N242, 715.65
Grade Level: 14 (7) with Gross Monthly Salary = N278, 852.79

 

13. Commissioner of Police (CP)

Grade Level: 15 (1) with Gross Monthly Salary = N266, 777.79
Grade Level: 15 (6) with Gross Monthly Salary = N302, 970.47

 

14. Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG)

Grade Level: 16 (1) with Gross Monthly Salary = N499, 751.87
Grade Level: 16 (5) with Gross Monthly Salary = N546, 572.73

That's it. Do you know that even though the salary of the IG is a bit reasonable, its noway comparable with other heads of National Intelligence Agency, State Security Service, and the Economic and Financial Crime Commission. Still the Police work is far more intense than any others.    

See for instance EFCC Chairman, N1.5 million per month,  the Director General of the SSS earns N1, 336 million per month while IGP earns N711, 498 per month. Compare it and see the disparity. The different is clear.
